When Anna was thirty-eight, she received a call from a lawyer named Mr. Whitman. He explained that there were legal matters involving Helen’s estate and asked Anna to attend a meeting at his office.
When Anna arrived, Helen’s three children were already there. The atmosphere felt formal and serious as the lawyer began reviewing the details of the estate.
Then came the surprising announcement.
According to Helen’s final decision, the large house on Lakeview Drive—valued at several million dollars—had been left to Anna.
