Part 3: The Toast That Defined a Father

Now Nancy was an adult with her own career and ambitions.

Bruce’s final gift to her was the small, beautiful home where the housewarming party was taking place.

But the night had become complicated.

At one point during the evening, Bruce overheard guests complimenting the house while Jacob stood nearby smiling as though he had been part of the story all along.

Bruce felt invisible.

For the first time in years, he wondered whether his place in Nancy’s life might slowly fade.

She described the lunches he packed, the late-night homework sessions, and the encouragement he gave her when she doubted herself.

Then she lifted her glass again.

“This house isn’t just a gift,” she said softly. “It’s proof of his love.”

The room burst into applause.

Jacob lowered his eyes quietly.

After a moment, he nodded slightly, acknowledging the truth without protest.

Nancy walked over and squeezed Bruce’s hand.

In that moment, Bruce understood something powerful.

He hadn’t just bought Nancy a house.

He had been her home all along.
