Part 2: A Dress Made of Memories
Prom season arrived while Nicole was still grieving. Around her, classmates talked excitedly about expensive dresses, limousines, and glamorous photos. But Nicole felt disconnected from all the excitement.
Prom had always been something she imagined sharing with her father. He had once joked about how proud he would be to see her dressed up and ready for such an important night.
Without him, the idea of attending felt empty.
One evening, while sorting through the belongings returned from the hospital, Nicole found a small box containing several of Johnny’s old work shirts. They were neatly folded, just as he had always kept them.
Holding the fabric in her hands brought back a flood of memories.
Then an idea slowly formed in her mind.
If her father could not physically be there on prom night, perhaps she could carry a part of him with her.
With the help of her aunt, Nicole decided to sew her own dress using Johnny’s shirts. She had little experience with sewing, but she was determined to make it work.
