On the night of prom, Nicole gathered her courage and wore the dress she had worked so hard to create. As she entered the decorated gymnasium, she felt nervous but proud.
At first, some students noticed the unusual dress and began whispering.
Soon, a few people started laughing.
“Is that made from janitor rags?” someone joked loudly.
The laughter spread through a small group of students, and Nicole felt her face grow warm with embarrassment.
Trying to defend herself, she quietly explained that the dress had been made from her father’s shirts as a way to honor him after his death.
But some people continued laughing.
