3. The Hidden Discovery
Catherine decided to alter the dress herself, just as Rose had asked.
She set up a small workspace at the old kitchen table where Rose had once taught her how to sew simple repairs. Slowly and carefully, she began adjusting the fabric so the dress would fit her perfectly.
As she worked, she noticed something unusual.
Inside the lining of the bodice, the stitching looked slightly different from the rest of the dress. Curious, she carefully opened the seam and discovered a tiny hidden pocket sewn into the fabric.
Inside the pocket was a folded letter written in Rose’s familiar handwriting.
Catherine’s hands trembled slightly as she unfolded the pages.
The letter was long and heartfelt. In it, Rose explained that there were parts of the family’s history Catherine had never known.
Rose wrote about how life sometimes brings unexpected situations and how love often requires difficult choices.
The letter described how Rose had once made a decision to care for Catherine and raise her as her own family member, offering the stability and love every child deserves.
Rose explained that she had always believed Catherine would grow into a strong and compassionate person—and that when the time came, Catherine would understand why some decisions had been made quietly.
The message ended with a simple and loving sentence:
“No matter what you discover about the past, remember that you have always been deeply loved.”
