When Nicole was younger, Johnny even taught himself how to braid hair by watching online tutorials so he could help her get ready for school. His attempts were not perfect at first, but Nicole always appreciated the effort and love behind them.
Despite Johnny’s devotion, school was not always easy for Nicole. Many students looked down on her because of her father’s job. They whispered cruel comments in the hallways and sometimes laughed openly.
“That’s the janitor’s daughter,” some would say. “Her dad cleans our toilets.”
The words hurt Nicole deeply. There were days when she came home with tears in her eyes, feeling embarrassed and ashamed.
But Johnny always reminded her of something important.
“There is no shame in honest work,” he would say gently. “A person’s job doesn’t define their worth. Kindness, effort, and integrity do.”
His words became Nicole’s source of strength. She studied hard, stayed determined, and promised herself that one day she would make her father proud.
However, during Nicole’s senior year of high school, tragedy struck.
Johnny was diagnosed with cancer.
Despite undergoing treatment and fighting bravely, his condition worsened. Within months, Nicole lost the person who had been her entire world.
He passed away just a few months before her senior prom—an event he had always dreamed of seeing her attend.
