Most people instinctively focus on the visible water level. Because all four glasses appear equally full, the natural assumption is that they must all contain the same amount of water. The Science Behind the Puzzle

The correct principle needed to solve this puzzle is displacement. In simple terms, displacement means that when an object is placed into a liquid, it takes up space. That space is no longer available for the liquid itself. So, the larger the object inside the glass, the less actual water the glass can hold, even if the water level looks the same from the outside.
